Science Can Make Sense

Has your teen expressed any of these thoughts?

“I don’t want to think about this. It makes no sense!”

“I know I am behind but I just can’t make myself care about this.”

“I am not good at science.”

“There are so many ideas that do not connect to my life!”

“That teacher doesn’t like me!

“I can’t think this way.”

“When will I ever need to know this stuff?

What is changing for your adolescent learner?

Teens experience a growing need to actively determine the structure and routines of their lives. While this is an appropriate and necessary development for them, it also changes their perception of typical learning tasks. As focus on social and personal topics increase, adolescents filter new information by how it connects with their interests.

How can Inquiry for Teens help?

Our approach to crafting learning experiences is comprehensive. We are a team of learning specialists with multiple academic degrees and decades of successful teaching experience. We have actively investigated our students’ thinking, interests, and academic performance as they relate to the topics of instruction. We believe learning is complex and occurs within the context of a student’s existing mental framework. We honor each student’s unique learning experiences, interests, and cognitive strategies in all aspects of our work. We teach adolescents how to explore and document their own learning with creative investigations that match each teen’s unique interests and learning style.
